M&S Launch New Autograph Menswear Collection

Topman will introduce music sales in its flagship Oxford Street store in a deal with London music independent Rough Trade Retail Group the sales are due to start in September this is due to fit with the planned revamp of the Oxford Street flagship store, which houses Topshop, Topman and Miss Selfridge all in time for London Fashion Week in September.

Dorothy Perkins and River Island have launched higher-end collections in an attempt to attract a different kind of clientele.

Dorothy Perkins have just launched its DP Collection in stores and online with a British rock heritage theme. The range includes jackets, t-shirts and shoes as well as bags and other accessories. The range is priced between £12 and £120 this si the first part of the range the second instalment will launch in in late September.

River Island have also launched its higher-end collection in stores and online titled the apparel range – it comprises of  two themes:

“Festival and Going Out”.

These launches come as New Look prepares to debut its higher-priced rock-inspired range Idol London, which is set to roll out this autumn.

Online Luxury-Fashion Retailer Gilt Groupe Raises $40 million

The Gilt site which sends its selective members sale and clearance information on expensive fashion items has just raised $40 million in capital from General Atlantic and Matrix Partners, reports The Business Insider.

The New York based company has been valued at $400 million and anticipates bringing in $500 million in revenue next year, is able to offer its members better prices on luxury goods because it also acts as a channel for designers to unload excess inventory.

With the credit crunch prompting a drop in discretionary purchases, designers say they have more surplus on their hands than usual.

To become a member, a user must receive an invitation — preserving the exclusive quality of the brands its sells, even at a 70 percent discount. Sales are conducted online and last about 36 hours.
